Y’all, MAGA Don’t Love Jesus

Why the Carpenter from Nazareth Would Flip Their Tables

Let’s get honest for a hot second. Jesus wasn’t waving a flag at a Trump rally. He wasn’t handing out AR-15s at the Sermon on the Mount. He wasn’t shouting “Build the wall!” while kids cried in cages.

And every time I hear folks trying to marry MAGA politics to the teachings of Jesus, I can just picture it: baby Jesus in the manger, lip quivering, eyes filling up, breaking into that full-on ugly cry. You know the one, red face, snot bubbles. MAGA makes the baby Jesus cry.

Jesus: Blessed Are the Poor. MAGA: Cut Their Benefits.

Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor.”
MAGA said, “Cut their food stamps.”

I think about single moms I know who already stretch ramen noodles six different ways just to keep their kids fed.

MAGA looks at them and says, “Try harder.”
Jesus looks at them and says, “You are blessed.”

Which one feels like Love to you?

Jesus: Welcome the Stranger. MAGA: Deport ‘Em

Jesus was a refugee child. Had to flee violence with his parents.

I can’t help but think: if the Nativity happened today, Joseph and Mary would be standing at the border, baby in their arms, while some guy in a MAGA hat shouted, “Go back where you came from!” Fox News would run headlines about “illegals bringing donkeys across the border.”

And yet, Jesus grew up and said, “Whatever you do to the least of these, you do to me.” MAGA builds higher walls.

Jesus: Love Your Enemies. MAGA: Lock ‘Em Up.

I’ve sat with folks who were moved to the point of tears because their family split over politics. They wanted to love their MAGA uncle, but he wanted them “locked up” for voting blue.

Jesus said, “Pray for those who persecute you.”
MAGA said, “Chant it louder: LOCK. HER. UP.”

Which one actually heals us and the world?

Jesus: The Peacemakers Are Blessed. MAGA: Fund the Bombs.

Jesus called peacemakers “children of God.”
MAGA hands the Pentagon a blank check like peace was ever gonna come from a drone strike.

I once met a veteran who told me the hardest thing he ever did wasn’t war, it was coming home to a country that praised the bombs but forgot the wounded.

Blessed are the peacemakers, not the weapons makers.

Jesus: Care for the Sick. MAGA: Cancel Obamacare.

I know folks right now skipping their prescriptions because rent comes first.

Jesus healed the sick: no copay, no deductible.
MAGA tried to rip away healthcare while high-fiving about tax cuts.

If you can say with a straight face that Jesus would cheer cutting medical care from the poor, then you’ve blessed greed and called it faith.

Jesus: Truth Will Set You Free. MAGA: Fake News.

Jesus said the truth will set you free.
MAGA said truth is whatever Dear Leader tweets at 3 a.m.

I know folks who have sat across the table from family who don’t trust them, their own blood, because Facebook told them they were “brainwashed by fake news.”

Jesus told the truth even when it got him killed.
MAGA makes up lies even when it costs relationships and lives.

Let’s not play pretend.

MAGA don’t love Jesus.
They love power.
They love walls.
They love money.
They love winning at any cost.

But the one who lifted up the poor, healed the broken, and said Love is the whole point? MAGA treats him like a prop they can wheel out for applause lines.

And if your politics look more like Herod than the carpenter from Nazareth, you might want to stop calling it “Christian.”

Because here’s the thing: Jesus isn’t hiding. He’s right there in the hungry mom, the refugee kid, the broken veteran, the neighbor you disagree with but are still called to love.

That’s where you’ll find him. Not at a rally where folks chant hate in his name.

MAGA don’t love Jesus.

They just love the sound of his name when it makes them feel righteous.

But faith built on fear and power grabs?
That’s not Christianity.
That’s idolatry with a red hat on.
